REFRIGERANT R449A (OPTEON XP40) - REPLACEMENT R404A/R507

he refrigerant R449A (Opteon XP40) is one of a new generation of products gaining increasing popularity in the industry market. It is used in new installations designed specifically for it, but also as a replacement for older refrigerants. It is characterised by its high versatility, which should be counted as one of its major advantages. It can be used with low-, medium- and high-temperature equipment. Where is it most commonly used? Primarily it can be found in commercial refrigeration (e.g. hypermarkets) and industrial refrigeration (cold stores and freezers). R449A is a zeotropic mixture with a chemical composition of 25.7% R134A; 25.3% R1234yf; 24.7% R125 and 24.3% R32.

The refrigerant was developed to replace the older variants named R404A and R507. It is characterised by a significantly lower environmental impact than them. The difference is up to 65%. This is a very high figure and has a huge impact on the functionality of the coolant. At the same time, however, R449A (Opteon XP40) has very similar parameters and energy efficiency, which makes it quite possible to use it as a replacement. However, it should be noted that before replacing the coolant in the old system, it is necessary to upgrade the system and use a different oil (POE).
